Over the past decade, Ritu's life has been a journey marked by resilience, courage, and determination. Hailing from Rohtak, Haryana, Ritu's passion for volleyball led her to excel at the state level. However, her life took a drastic turn when, on her way back from practice, she fell victim to an acid attack orchestrated by her cousin brother, an incident that changed the course of her life.

Despite the trauma and challenges she faced, Ritu found strength in her family's constant support. She showed immense strength and will power to start her life again, refusing to let the attack define her. Instead, she joined the Stop Acid Attack campaign in 2014, bravely stepping forward to advocate for change and raise awareness about the issue.

Her journey towards empowerment saw her shedding the veil that once shielded her face, symbolising her refusal to be defined by her scars.

Through her advocacy work and personal example, Ritu has encouraged countless survivors to reclaim their agency and rebuild their lives. Her story has sparked conversations, shifted public perceptions, and influenced policy decisions regarding acid violence. By standing tall in the face of adversity, she has not only inspired individuals but also catalysed broader societal change, fostering a more inclusive and compassionate society.

Through various platforms such as TEDx talks, interviews, and appearances in movies like "Chaapaak" and "Akira," Ritu shared her story, inspiring countless others with her courage and determination.

Now, as she prepares to embark on a new chapter in her life, Ritu's upcoming marriage on March 12th holds profound significance. It symbolises not only her personal journey of resilience and healing but also serves as a testament to the transformative power of love, hope, and support.

Her marriage represents a celebration of overcoming adversity, a reminder that even in the face of unimaginable challenges, there is always room for love and joy. It is a symbol of hope for survivors everywhere, demonstrating that no matter what obstacles we may face, there is always the possibility of finding happiness and fulfilment.

As we honour Ritu's journey and celebrate her achievements, let us also reaffirm our commitment to creating a world where every individual, regardless of their past experiences, can live with dignity, equality, and love.
